Roundtable Discussion on National Financial Inclusion Strategy for Bangladesh

A roundtable discussion was held at hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon as part of formulating National Financial Inclusion Strategy for Bangladesh by Government of Bangladesh.

The event was jointly hosted by Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank and organized by the Business Finance for the Poor in Bangladesh (BFP-B) Project funded by the UKaid/DFID.

The purpose of the discussion was to update senior government officials on the progress, early analysis and emerging strategic priorities that may be considered for input in to the draft National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) for Bangladesh being developed by Dr. Mustafa K. Mujeri, a prominent economist of the country. Dr. Mustafa K. Mujeri presented the key findings and implications for strategic priorities of NFIS for Bangladesh.

Representatives from different government ministries provided their valuable inputs and identified the priority areas to consider for NFIS report. Senior bureaucrats of Government of Bangladesh and Mr. Keith Thompson, Team Leader, Private Sector Development of DFID Bangladesh attended the roundtable discussion as key discussant.

Mr. Md. Eunusur Rahman, Senior Secretary, Financial Institution Division of Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh, moderated the roundtable discussion.

Mr. Feisal Hussain, Team Leader of BFP-B Project updated the participants on roundtable background. Mr. Arijit Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance reviewed the progress of National Financial Inclusion Strategy Study. The way forward was presented by Mr. S.K. Sur Chowdhury, Deputy Governor, Bangladesh Bank and BFP-B Project Leader.
